Osteo Arthritis of Right Shoulder Joint
A lady patient aged about 59 years with history of shoulder pain radiating to the entire shoulder areas, upper back, scapular region & pain and difficulty in movements of the right shoulder joint with radiating pain to the right arm, more in the regions of the deltoid and triceps muscles.
Physical examination and clinical findings:
On examination of the right shoulder joint as a whole, she had limited movements in abduction, hand behind back motion and internal rotation. The rotator cuff was extremely tight and painful. The deltoid and triceps muscle was extremely tight and painful.
Diagnostic tests:
X-Ray of the Right Shoulder Joint: The X-ray revealed, Osteo arthritic changes of the head of Humerus and the Glenohumeral joint as a whole, with osteoporosis.
IQ3: With the help of IQ3 we were able to see the irregularity of the articular surface, joint space narrowing, osteophytosis, joint effusion and rotator cuff associated tendonitis.
Clinical Diagnosis:
Osteo arthritis of the Right Shoulder Joint with osteophytes, reduced joint space and rotator cuff tendonitis
Treatment advised:
Marma Bandhana Chikitsa for approximately 24 sittings (Bi-weekly). The patient was advised with Marma Bandana, ayurvedic Medicinal applications, bandaging along with clinically tested ayurvedic medicines and supplements given orally and for local applications during the course of treatment only.
At the end of the treatment the mobility of the right shoulder joint had improved by 80%, the pain was reduced by 85% and the muscular spasm in the shoulder areas and the scapular regions were significantly lower. The patient can lead a normal life going about her daily chores. Exercises were taught to strengthen her shoulder joint and arm.
