Calcaneal Spur/Plantar Fasciitis of Left Leg
A female patient aged about 59 years with history of pain in her left foot, more in the heel region since about 1 year, increased since about one month. The pain radiates all along the sole of the foot and to the tendo- calcaneal region of the leg. Patient is unable to stand or walk for more than 5 minutes.
Physical examination and clinical findings:
On examination, it was found that the patient had severe pain in her left foot, and she had excruciating pain when the calcaneal region was pressed upon.
Diagnostic tests:
X-Ray of the Left Foot: The x-ray revealed that there were 2 calcaneal spur present, one on the sole and one on the posterior aspect of the calcaneal bone. The one on the sole more anteriorly, was very painful and was also bigger than the one posteriorly. Osteophytes were also seen along the tarsal bones and the bones were osteoporotic.
IQ3: With the help of IQ3 we were able to see both the calcaneal spur attached to the surface of the calcaneal bone and they were sharp in nature probably rubbing the plantar tendons while at work. Inflammation of the sole and posterior side of foot was present. The tendons had thinned out.
Clinical Diagnosis:
Calcaneal Spur or Plantar fasciitis of the left foot.
Treatment advised:
Marma Bandhana Chikitsa for approximately 16 sittings (Bi-weekly). The patient was advised with Marma Bandana, ayurvedic Medicinal applications, bandaging along with clinically tested ayurvedic medicines and supplements given orally and for local applications during the course of treatment only
Efficacy of Treatment :
At the end of the treatment the patient was free of pain by about 90% and the patient was able to walk freely without pain. The patient can lead a normal life going about her daily chores.
